Lang is the son of Lang Guoren who is also a musician. His love for music started at the early age of three after watching an episode of the cartoon “Tom and Jerry”, in which the Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt was played. Lang was fascinated and began piano lessons with Professor Zhu Ya-Fen. At the age of five he was already entering competitions.

At the age of nine, Lang was studying at Beijing’s Central Conservatory of Music. His first teacher gave up on him, but another teacher gave him a chance, and his hope for a life in music came back. At an early age he started winning various competitions in China like the Xing Hai Cup Piano Competition, the International Competition for Young Pianists, and the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians to name a few.

With Lang’s early success, in 1997 he left for America to study at the Curtis Institute of Musicians in Philadelphia. Gary Gaffman, the president of the institute personally trained him during his years there.

After finishing his studies at the Curtis Institute, Lang’s immediately sky-rocketed into fame. Soon he was performing in concerts and halls and in front of numbers of famous personalities. Some of his early performances included playing at Carnegie Hall, playing with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic. His concerts and tours around the world tremendously elevated his career and increased his net worth.

Soon, Lang was recording albums that also became successful.
