Imran is one of five children to Ikramullah Khan Niazi and Shaukat Khanum; Imran grew up with his four sisters, in an upper-middle class family, and as a result he received higher education. He attended the Aitchison College in Lahore, after which he moved to England and went to the Royal Grammar School Worcester. His education didn`t stop there, as he enrolled at the prestigious Keble College, Oxford, studying Economics, Politics and Philosophy. Imran obtained his degree in 1975.

Furthermore, he has raised $25 million in order to build a cancer center, and also started the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust, which is a charity organization, named after his mother. He has received several awards for his contribution to charity organizations, including the Humanitarian Award at theAsian Sports Awards in Kuala Lumpur 2007.
