State Department of Athletics and was fortunate enough to be on the Men’s Basketball Program for a communications & marketing practice. This later opened up some possibilities within N.C.
In her sophomore year, Abby stepped in front of the camera for perhaps the first time as she was hired by Wolfpack Sports TV. Abby extended her expertise by engaging with everything from filming, producing, writing scripts, presenting shows, one-on-one interviews.
Abby was also given the role of Field Reporter in the Mooresville Spinners for a collective summer wooden bat team in the CVCL. This summer, for the Chicago White Sox Low-A affiliate, Kannapolis Intimidators, she took up another spot in Kannapolis, NC. At the age of 19, Abby took on a new role as an in-game host, entertained multitudes, and connected with legions of people.
She was approached by Spectrum News at the start of my senior year. Abby was given the same responsibilities as a regular local sports reporter.
At twenty-one years old and still in college, I was consistently covering all of the major collegiate and professional sports in the North Carolina Triangle on a channel that aired across the entire state.
Abby was recruited as a digital media reporter for Pack Pride in her first job outside of college. She’s the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes In-Game Host now. She generates ideas, chooses material, and creates the whole show. She also composes her own script and conducts interviews and creates an overall product which “informs, motivates and encourages” fans for any home game.

Abby in her college days was in a relationship with Deuce Johnson, who also attended the same college. On her Instagram, Abby Labar still has some images of her then-boyfriend Deuce.
