He is a former professional basketball player and currently the general manager and vice president of basketball operations of the Sacramento Kings in the NBA. IAt the beginning of his professional career, Vlade played for three years for Partizan Belgrade, winning a championship in Yugoslavia and a domestic cup as well as the Korac Cup. Then, Divac was drafted the 26th overall in the first round of the NBA Draft 1989 by the Los Angeles Lakers. He entered the NBA league perfectly, ending his first season in the first team of NBA Rookies. The following year, he became a major player in the franchise, contributing significantly in season 1990 – 1991; the season was ended suffering defeat tof the Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan, despite the 4th match in which Vlade established his best performance in the season with 27 points. The following season, the player suffered from a herniated disc and missed half of the season yet remained the undisputed backbone of the franchise. In 1996, after the arrival of Shaquille O’Neal, the Lakers decided to exchange Divac with the Charlotte Hornets against a first round pick that would enable them to acquire the rights to Kobe Bryant.

During the lockout of the 1998 – 1999 season, he joined his country and played a few months for Red Star Belgrade. After two years with the Hornets, Vlade became a free agent, and signed with the Sacramento Kings in which team he collaborated with his compatriot Peja Stojaković. In 2004, he signed a contract with the Lakers. However, because of back problems he only played five games, and as a result, the player decided to retire from the professional sport.
