Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee, commonly known as Tim Berners-Lee, is a famous English researcher, professor, as well as a computer scientist. More recently, in 2014 he received a “Special Award for Outstanding Achievement”, and earned an Honorary Doctor of Engineering and Technology degree from Yale University.

Tim Berners-Lee was born in 1955, in London, England, where he studied at Sheen Mount Primary and then Emanuel School. Later, Berners-Lee enrolled in the University of Oxford, from which he graduated with a degree in physics. When he graduated from University, he started his career by working at “The Plessey Company”, which specialized in electronics and telecommunications. Berners-Lee then got a job at “The European Organization for Nuclear Research” known as CERN, where he held a position of an independent contractor. Soon Berners-Lee presented a software project he called “ENQUIRE”, a simple hypertext program similar to that of Semantic Web. He left his job at CERN in 1980, and instead joined “Image Computers System”. However, his departure was not long as he returned to CERN four years later, in 1984, and began working on his now famous “World Wide Web”. Aside from that, Berners-Lee founded an organization called “The World Wide Web Foundation”, which aims at improving “WWW”.

More recently, in 2013 he joined “The Alliance for Affordable Internet”, which includes such companies as “Google”, “Facebook”, “Microsoft” and others. The main focus of the organization is to make sure that the Internet is more accessible to people worldwide. In addition to that, Berners-Lee has been serving as the president of a private company known as “The Open Data Institute”.

In regards to his personal life, Tim Berners-Lee was married to Nancy Carlson, with whom he had two children. However, upon their divorce he became involved with Rosemary Leith, whom he married in 2014.
