David Howell Evans, born on the 8th August 1961, is an Irish musician famously known as The Edge, the lead guitarist of the world-renowned band U2.

So how much is The Edge’s net worth? As of early 2016, according to sources it is reported to be $200 million, gained mostly from the success of the band U2, the sales of their albums and the record-breaking attendances during their tours.

Edge was born in Barking, Essex, (east London) to parents Gwenda and Garvin. Along with sister Gillian and brother Richard, the whole family moved to Dublin and has lived there ever since. He attended St. Andrews Primary School and later on Mount Temple Comprehensive High School.

Even at an early age, Edge was already fond of playing various musical instruments with his brother Richard. While attending Mount Temple, Larry Mullen Jr., put up an announcement that he was forming a band. Edge along with Paul Hewson “Bono”and Adam Clayton signed up and the four formed a band. From “Feedback” to “The Hype”, in March of 1978, they decided to call their band “U2”. Aside from the changing band names, Hewson decided that he would carry the name Bono, and later baptized The Edge with the name we know now.

The four started playing in small venues in Dublin and around Ireland in their early years. In 1978, the band won a contest with a small cash price and a chance to record in a studio. They later on released an EP entitled “Three”, which received minor success in Ireland. They went on to release a few singles and perform in minor shows in Ireland until they were discovered by record label Island Records in March of 1980.

Already a minor success in Dublin, the band’s first official album was “Boy”, which was followed through with a tour in some parts of Europe and the United States. The album and the band’s live performances garnered positive reviews, making them known in the United States.

The band and Edge encountered some problems during 1981, when Edge and Bono decided that they wanted to leave the band due to their religious beliefs. However, after much consideration, the two decided to stay and continued with the band leading up to the release of their next album “October”.

With their differences being put aside, the four would later produce a total of 12 best-selling albums, perform concerts with the most attendances in history, and gain hundreds of awards and accolades making them one of the most successful bands in the world, and making the four members well-known individually and increasing their net worth.

The Edge is today known to be one of the best guitarists in the world of music because of his distinctive and “anti-guitar hero” style. Aside from U2, he has also worked with other artists like Johnny Cash, Ronnie Wood, Jay-Z and Rihanna. He even helped create music for “The Batman”, the James Bond film “Golden Eye” and the musical “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark”. These collaborations and various projects also helped his ever growing career and net worth.

In terms of his personal life, The Edge was married to his first wife Aislinn O’Sullivan for seven years, until they decided to separate in 1990. The two were legally divorced in 1996; they have three children.

In 1993 while on tour, The Edge began dating Morleigh Steinberg; the two married in 2002 and they have a daughter and a son.
