Ramon Ray Ray McElrathbey was a young man whose story came out in 2007 and made him an American Household name. In 2005, he was recruited by Clemson University, rejecting offers of Universities such as Arkansas, Florida, or Georgia Tech among others, for that same year begin what would be his dream of playing the sport he loved so much. During that year, Ray put on a redshirt, so he would see no action and would dedicate himself to training his physique for what was to come, but no red shirt could really train him for what he would have to face.
He suddenly became the local guardian of his 11-year-old brother Fahmarr when Ray himself was just 19. He kept his brother well hidden in his room to protect him from sending to foster homes.

At the time, their father was nowhere to be seen, so Fahmarr visited Ray Ray and asked him if he could stay with him. Ray Ray wanted to protect his brother from going to foster homes so he let his brother stay with him in his dorm.
At the time, he wanted to help his other brother who was just 16 at the time, but he knew taking care of two brothers won’t be easy. However, he did become the legal guardian of Fahmarr at the age of 19 . he and his brother lived in an apartment off the campus. The other people came to know about his brother and offered help. However, the NCAA suspended him for accepting help from other people.
Gradually, NCAA permitted him to accept a certain amount of help from the community and the Clemson football program and set up the trust fund for Ray Ray’s younger brother, Fahmarr, which helped with basic necessities like food, clothing, and medical care.

From 2005, Ray Ray began to play on special teams t as well as the position of safety. He debuted on September 3, 2006, as the season opener against Florida Atlantic. However, his career at Clemson was cut short when he tore his ACL during his training. Ray graduated from college in 2008 and spent the next year and a half graduating from Howard University in Washington, D.C. in pursuit of a degree in communications. Ray Ray did not play in the NFL but he was recruited as Safety in Clemson.
In 2010, he took part in his last college football game playing or Mars Hill College in the mountains of North Carolina outside of Asheville. He then moved to Los Angeles and started working in public service. Ray offered his services for a homeless outreach program and on a number of political campaigns, phone banking and going door-to-door.
He also worked as a security guard at nightclubs. Later Ray owned his own business where he worked as a personal trainer. Currently, Ray is also coaching basketball at a school in Shreiner Academy Atlanta and working for a nonprofit company. He is running a Trucking company and together with his brother and mother who is drug-free now has founded Ray’s Safety Net Foundation.
After his story was out in the world, he appeared on ABC News as Person of the Week. He and his younger brother both were guests at The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Based on the life story of Ray Ray and his brother Fahmarr, Disney decided to make a movie titled Safety. The movie was released on December 11, 2020. Some parts of the movies were shot at a September 2019 football game at Clemson Memorial Stadium.
Ray was a regular presence on the sets of the movie and he aced as the consultant. McElrathbey himself had a cameo as a player on the football team named Raheem.
