Pete Golding Career Bio, Contract
From 2002–2005, Golding was a four-year safe start for the Delta Statemen, bringing 285 career pursuits to third position in the school history, while taking nine career interceptions to finish fourth place. In 2004, after carrying the team with 85 tackles with two interceptions and eight pass break-ups, he received free safety garnered All-Gulf South Conference honors. As a senior in 2005, he recorded 81 tackles, including five loss-to-loss tackles, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles.
Golding started his career as a graduate assistant to Rick Rhoades’ staff of former Delta State head coach in 2006. Statemen went to the NCAA Division II Semifinals from 12 to 3 this season, before falling into the possession of Grand Valley State National Champion.
Golding worked at Tusculum College, a member of the South Atlantic Conference, for two years as a defensive coach and defensive backs coach under Frankie DeBusk. Golding served as a defensive back coach in 2007 prior to being appointed defense coordinator in 2008.
The 2017 defense of Golding was seventh in the Subdivision of Football Bowl and was only 287.8 yards per game. In scoring defense (17.0 ppg), second in first downs defense (166), and 19th in pass efficiency defense, the Roadrunners also finished eighth (112.19). UTSA’s improvement during the tenure of Golding was evident because the Roadrunners permitted 156 fewer yards a game in 2017 and 16.8 fewer points a game compared to 2015.
On December 15, 2017, University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced the hiring of Pete Golding to serve as a Crimson Tide defensive assistant in 2018. In February of 2019, he was promoted to defensive coordinator.
