Natalie Gulbis is the only child of her parents who are of Latvian descent. She grew up in Sacramento, and developed an interest towards gold from the age of four. At the age of seven, Natalie won her first tournament, while she recorded her first par at the age of ten. Gulbis played for the first time in an LPGA Tour event as an amateur in 1997, and was also a top player in the boys’ golf team at the Granite Bay High School, from where she matriculated in 1999.

In 2000, Gulbis accepted a scholarship from the University of Arizona, but spent only a year there before dropping out to turn professional in July 2001, and earning her card for the 2002 season thanks to a fourth place at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament in Daytona Beach, Florida in October 2001. Natalie made more than $1 million in he 2005 season, finishing sixth on the LPGA money list, significantly increasing her net worth.
