Michael Finley began to play basketball while he was attending elementary school – one of his favorite players was Michael Jordan. Later, in Proviso East High School in Maywood, Illinois, he continued to play basketball, and as a senior he won the 1991 IHSA class AA boys’ basketball tournament. Thus, later in 2007, he was named as one of the “100 Legends of the IHSA Boys Basketball Tournament”. After high school, he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in Business Management. He played for the college basketball team, setting the all-time scoring record, which wasn’t surpassed until 12 seasons later by Alando Tucker.

Michael`s professional career began in 1995, when at the NBA Draft he was selected as the 21st overall pick by the Phoenix Suns, which also marked the start of his net worth. In his first season, he played in all 82 games, while starting 72 of them, and averaged 15.0 points, 3.5 assists and 4.6 rebounds in 39 minutes average he spent per game. This earned him a spot in the NBA All-Rookie First Team, however, he suffered an injury in the last game of the regular season, and missed the playoffs that year.

The following season, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks just about 30 games into the season. While in Dallas, Michael`s performance flourished and he became one of the leaders of the Mavs during their late 1990s run and gun offense, alongside Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki. He spent the next nine seasons with Dallas, averaging over 20 points per game, which earned him lucrative contracts that only increased his net worth by a large margin. In 2005, he became an unrestricted free agent, and teams such as the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timber wolves and even his former team Phoenix wanted to get a hold of him, however, he decided to stay in Texas and signed with the San Antonio Spurs for the next five years. During his basketball career, Finley participated in two All-Star games, in 2000 and 2001. He is currently Assistant Vice President at the Dallas Mavericks.
