Marie Osmond’s Music career

Throughout the 1970s Marie was the only family member not interested in the music industry except her two oldest brothers (who are deaf). Following the Osmonds’ initial success in 1970, Donny gained success on mainstream music charts as a solo artist and became a teen idol.

The Osmonds’ mother convinced Marie to record an album, and she signed MGM / Kolob Records with the family label, and began making concert appearances with her children. In comparison to her parents, who were performing contemporary pop music at the time, her style was more oriented towards country music. In 1973 Osmond released her first single entitled Paper Roses as a solo artist.

The song became a country hit number one, reached the Top 5 on the pop chart of the Billboard magazine, and was successful crossover. The single and the album of the same name received a gold record. She released another single, In My Little Corner of the World, and a 1974 album of the same title, all of which reached the 1974 Billboard country Top 40. Her next album’s title single, Who’s Sorry Now, released in 1975, went to No. 40 Osmond also had two pop duet hits with Donny in 1974: I’m Leaving It All Up to You and Morning Side of the Mountain.

The former album was a country success in the top 20, with both songs hitting the top 10 pop charts. Osmond released their fourth studio album in 1977, entitled This Is the Way That I Feel. It was a lot different from her earlier country artist hits covers, and was moving in more of a pop direction.

In the 1980s,

Osmond released a single on RCA Records titled Who’s Counting, performing on board the USS Ranger during a special Suzanne Somers series, 1981.

In 1984,

On Billboard’s Hot Country Singles the song peaked at No. 82. For a few weeks the single had received a fair amount of airplay. After signing a joint deal with Capitol Records and Curb Records, Osmond made a comeback in country music as a solo artist, reuniting her with Mike Curb, who was the main factor in the success of the band in the early 1970s.

She released her first studio album in close to seven years in 1985, There’s No Stopping Your Back. This album had four singles released from it, with two attaining the country charts number 1 spot. The songs based on the Countrypolitan style which was more popular.

A number 1 hit on the country charts titled Meet Me in Montana was produced by the popular pairing with Dan Seals The follow-up single was the title track, It’s No Stopping Your Spirit, which early 1986 also reached number 1 spot. Read My Lips the final single went on to become a top 10 album. The 1986 follow-up album was called I Just Needed You. Once again Osmond reached number 1 with a duet titled You’re Really New to Me with Paul Davis. The second single released was the I Just Wanted You title track which landed in the top 20.

Two additional songs, Crazy’s Everyone’s ‘Bout My Baby and Weep Just A Little, have not had the same impact. Osmond released their album All in Love in 1988, and Steppin’ Stone released it in 1989. Regardless of the evolving tastes of country music, both albums struggled to attain any popularity on the Billboard charts; at the detriment of country pop acts like the Osmonds, neotraditionalism was coming to the fore.

By 1991, further changes would eventually end her career as an influential recording artist in the country music industry. Steppin ‘Stone will be their last 1980s country record.

Osmond only released one single that charted “What Kind of Man (Walks On a Woman)” in 1995. 2000s She released the album I Can Do This full of balladry in November 2010, and highlighted her multi-octave voice in the song Pie Jesu. 2010s

The most recent work by Osmond, Music Is Medicine, was announced in late 2015 via a social media campaign. Online retailer Amazon.com along with Apple’s iTunes and brick-and-mortar giant Walmart launched the album in both CD and digital format on April 15th, 2016. On 18 November 2016 an Amazon-only release of an autographed vinyl press was made available. It was the first new album Osmond had made in five years.

The album was produced by Jason Deere who had collaborated with her in the past. Other guest performers include Marty Roe, Olivia Newton-John, Sisqó, John Rich and Alex Boyé. The album was released by Oliveme LLC, Osmond’s own label. Billboard Top Country Albums listed Music Is Medicine as a new entry in number 10 spot for the week of May 7, 2016, marking Osmond’s first return to country charts since the late 1980’s.

A video for the song “Then There’s You” was released on the internet video site Vevo on March 27, 2016; it received nearly 200,000 views in less than 48 hours.[citation needed] The video for the title track was also released on Vevo on April 13, 2016; it was filmed with patients from Children’s Miracle Hospital.

One song recorded with the country group Diamond Rio named “More You” and another song called “Got Me Cuz He Gets Me” vanished on the release date, making the overall album count 10 instead of the originally listed 12. Acting Television Career

Marie Osmond and brother Donny hosted a special variety show in 1975, which was later picked up as a weekly variety show in mid-season and began airing as Donny & Marie in 1976, and aired on ABC until 1978, until it was dubbed The Osmond Family Hour in 1979. The first made-for-TV film from Osmond was The Gift of Love which originally aired on ABC on December 5, 1978.

The film was basing loosely on the O. Henry tale “The Magi’s Gift” Timothy Bottoms was her co-star in the movie and she got her first on-screen kiss in this movie. Osmond appeared in a sitcom pilot named Marie the following year that did not make the schedule for the new season. She had her own variety show on NBC in 1980, also named Marie, which lasted for just half a season. Marie played a minor part with Sister Mae Davis in the 1982 made-for-TV movie Rooster.

She appeared in TV film I Married Wyatt Earp the following year as Earp’s aunt, Josephine ‘Josie’ Marcus. In 1984 Osmond played two animated characters-The Nursery Magic Fairy / Velveteen Rabbit in The Velveteen Rabbit and Rose Petal in the short TV named Rose Petal Place, and later in the Rose Petal Place TV movie: Real Friends.

Osmond then had a rotating role as co-host for two seasons with Jack Palance on Ripley’s Believe It or Not, ABC’s documentary show! In 1985–86 Palance’s daughter Holly was substituted.
