Linda Eder

Perhaps Linda Eder was the most famous new interpreter of theatrical songs to appear during the nineties. A Barbra Streis disciple and early on, Eder slowly developed her own vocal style, branching out of show tunes to include pop classics, light swing, and contemporary adult balladry in her repertoire.

As a stage actress, Eder collaborated primarily with her husband, the composer Frank Wildhorn, who also explicitly planned his content for her (and created her recordings too). It was Wildhorn’s musical adaptation of Jekyll and Hyde that catapulted Eder into stardom for the first time, and she continued to rely on his pen for a good portion of her recorded output, though her new millennium albums extended her comfort zone ever further.
