Helen is an actress, perhaps best known for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in the film “The Queen”, which won her an Academy Award for Best Actress. She was also part of the hit series “Prime Suspect” which ran from 1991 to 2006. All of her endeavors have helped raise her net worth to where it is now.

Helen’s father changed their family name to Mirren in the 1950s, and she grew up in what she would describe as an “anti-monarchist” family. While attending primary school at Hamlet Court, she was given her first opportunity to act in a production of “Hansel and Gretel”. Later, she attended St. Bernard’s High School for Girls and continued to appear in productions. After matriculating, she went to New College of Speech and Drama, and by the age of 18 had auditioned for the National Youth Theatre, and was accepted.

Two years later she portrayed Cleopatra in a production of “Antony and Cleopatra”, and Mirren was invited to join the Royal Shakespeare Company, being cast in plays such as “The Revenger’s Tragedy”, “All’s Well That Ends Well” and “The Two Gentlemen of Verona”. One of Helen’s first television appearances was in a documentary film entitled “Doing Her Own Thing”, which followed her life while in the RSC. She continued in plays, including appearing in West End repertory, doing productions such as “Henry VI”, and “Measure for Measure”. She continued to work for both places, being active until the late 1980s. In 1994, Mirren debuted on Broadway in “A Month in the Country”, being nominated twice for Tony Awards for the role. Helen also continued to work for the National Theatre, in “The Madness of King George”, “Mourning Becomes Electra”, and “Phedre”, and again on Broadway in the play “Dance of Death” alongside Sir Ian McKellen.

Even while being active in theatre, she was in a number of films, including “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “Excalibur”, “The Prince of Egypt”, and “Teaching Mrs. Tingle”.
