George started out as a star football player for Weymouth High School. He then went to the University of Southern Mississippi where he would study advertising. Around this time he started doing marijuana, and selling portions of what he bought to break even. He never finished his degree, and in 1967, moved to California, as he realized the potential for business as prices for marijuana in California were much lower compared to that of New England. He started smuggling marijuana by using his girlfriend who was a stewardess, using her bags. Around this time, airport checks weren’t very strict, especially for airport staff, so he succeeded and started to raise his net worth. He eventually expanded his operation and found a supplier of marijuana in Mexico. He allegedly stole airplanes from private airports in Cape Cod, and hired professional pilots to fly to and from Mexico. He reportedly earned around $250,000 a month during this time, which was equivalent to around $1.5 million today. He was eventually caught smuggling 660 pounds of marijuana in 1974, while waiting for a contact.

Jung argued with the judge successfully and was sent to the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury. There he would meet Carlos Lehder Rivas, who would introduce him to the Medellin Cartel and their operations on cocaine in Colombia. George taught Carlos how to smuggle and the two started smuggling cocaine to the United States. They were responsible for around 85% of the cocaine found in the United States during the 70s and 80s. They amassed considerable wealth, earning $15 million in a single run. He was eventually betrayed by Lehder when he started dealing directly with George. Jung was eventually arrested in 1987 but skipped bail.

This time he was sentenced to 60 years in prison but later testified against his former accomplice Lehder to reduce his sentence. He was released from prison in June 2014.

Aside from George’s contributions to the movie “Blow”, he’s also contributed to “Heavy” which is supposedly fictional and details how he escaped from a Cuban prison and made it to Guatemala. He has a family, a Colombian wife and a daughter, but most of the details of his personal life have been altered for the safety of those involved.
