Beto Duran Career Biography
Beto was working as sports editor of the school newspaper when the teacher said he had a knack for writing and might consider it as a profession. After 13 years as a sports writer for ESPN, it’s difficult to fathom that current play-by-play reporter Beto Duran began his journalism career by trying to get out of English class.
“I was the editor of the school paper to get out of English class,” Duran said.
After being motivated by one of his college professors, Duran decided to go to sports reporting at the age of 21. After internships with CNN in 2000 and Los Angeles Clippers during their 2000-2001 season, Duran began his career by handing out promotional t-shirts and answering phone calls to Hawthorne Cable.
He is now a play-by-play analyst for Golden Boy Promotions and host for the Chargers Football Team post-game “Chargers Talk” on AM 570. As Senior Reporter for 710 ESPN Radio in Los Angeles, Beto Duran gives fans unique insight into the heartbeat of the locker room and the vibe of the clubhouse.
Beto is also a frequent TV host to SportsCenter, ESPNEWS, and First Take, as well as the ESPN Radio Network. He launched a podcast called “LIVING THE DREAM.”
