Crenshaw started playing golf at an early age. A native of Austin, Texas, he attended Austin High School, where he played various sports including basketball, baseball and even American Football, but golf has always been the sport that he was most passionate about. In his last year in high school he placed 32nd in the U.S. Open, making him one of the best players at the age of 18.

In college, he studied of course but also played for the University of Texas in 1970. During his university years, he won the National Collegiate Athletic Association Championships in three consecutive years, spanning from 1971 to 1973 and even placed twenty-seventh at the U.S. Open. His achievements decided him to turn pro in 1973.

Crenshaw immediately wowed the world of golf when he won the San Antonio-Texas Open, his first professional tournament, making him one of the few golfers who won the first major event of their career. After his first win, Crenshaw went on to won various tournaments and other competitions, increasing his fame and net worth.

Some of Crenshaw’s most memorable and major victories were in 1984 when he won The Masters, and eventually followed by another dramatic win in the same tournament in 1995, as days after the death of his friend and mentor, the legendary Harvey Penick, Crenshaw pulled himself together and became the champion of the 1995 Masters.

In 1999, Crenshaw was once again put in the limelight for leading Team U.S.A. in a momentous win in the Ryder Cup. All in all, Crenshaw won 19 PGA tours and 2 Masters, establishing him as one of the greatest players of the sport and significantly increasing his net worth.

Aside from playing golf, to add to his wealth Crenshaw also builds and restores golf courses. Together with his partner Bill Coore, they started the firm Coore & Crenshaw in 1986, working on some of the best courses in America. They have restored golf courses like Houston Country Club and Brook Hollow Country Club to name just two. They also built the following courses – The Plantation Club in Hawaii, Friars Head in New York, Bandon Dunes complex in Oregon, and The Sand Hills Golf Club in Nebraska.
