Boo Weekley grew up in Florida, and studied turf-grass science at the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, but dropped out a year later after being unsuccessful in school, and returned home. There, Weekley worked as a hydro blaster at the Monsanto chemical plant in Pensacola, Florida, serving as a cleaner of the large ammonia tanks.
Having played golf while at college, Weekley turned professional in 1997 and debuted on the Developmental Players Tour in Atlanta, Georgia. He competed on mini-tours until 2002, when he entered the PGA Tour.
