William Hall Macy, Jr. was born on 13 March 1950, in Miami, Florida USA, and is an actor, theater director, screenwriter and teacher, known for appearing in various major and independent films. Macy attended and matriculated from Allegany High School in 1968. Afterwards, he would attend Bethany College to study veterinary medicine. He admits that he wasn’t very good at academics, and later decided to go to Goddard College where he found a liking for theatre. He started working in productions such as “The Three Penny Opera” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” while he was there.

After graduation, William moved to Chicago, and initially worked as a bartender. There he founded St. Nicholas Theater Company with David Mamet and started in plays such as “The Water Engine” and “American Buffalo”. After Chicago, Macy moved to Los Angeles and then New York in 1980, where he would perform in over 50 Broadway and off-Broadway shows. He used the name W.H. Macy so that he wouldn’t be confused with actor Bill Macy. He was also well known for his voice-over work which was used in many commercials. One of his first television appearances was in “Kate & Allie”, and later he got the opportunity to work on films such as “Things Change”, “Oleanna” and “Spartan”. William became well known for the film “Fargo”, which he was nominated for an Academy Award. In 2007, he was in the film “Wild Hogs” – which received poor ratings but was a financial success – and was about middle-aged men trying to relive their days of youth riding motorcycles and travelling the country. Three years later “Shameless” would get him acclaim for his performance, as well as an Emmy nomination. His latest work is on the film “The Sessions” and “Room”.

For his personal life, it is known that William has been married to actress Felicity Huffman since 1997, and they have two daughters. He plays the ukulele and also does woodworking during his free time. Since the movie “Wild Hogs”, he’s taken a big interest in motorcycles.
