Little is known about his early life and family; he attended Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, and was a part of the school`s choir. Also in the choir were members of the band Unique Attraction – Nathan Morris, Marc Nelson, Goerge Balid, Jon Shoats and Marguerite Walker. After a tumble in the group`s line up, Wanya was brought into the group in 1987; a year later, it changed the name to Boyz To Men. In 1989, they performed at the school`s Valentine’s Day dance party, and after it ended, members snuck up into backstage of the New Edition group, who held the concert in their hometown that night.
