She was a starter in basketballer for four years at WHS, where the school’s team, Panthers, had a win-loss record of 102-7. For four years in a row, Skylar paved the Panthers way to the state championship competitions, and helped earn Washington’s winning the title in the 2007 season. With her skills and the team effort, the Panthers became the nation’s number one ranked team. She was then rewarded twice as the contestant of the year by Gatorade Indiana Girls Basketball and was named WBCA All American. Thereafter, in 2009 she took part in the WBCA High School All American Game, and scored 24 points. Including her last year, also playing in the McDonald’s All American Game choice, she ended her career scoring 2,790 points, the 3rd highest scoring girl in the history of Indiana, which had a middling score per game of 25.9 points.
Because of Skylar’s outstanding academic and athletic performance, various universities wanted to take her, including Notre Dame and Stanford. Skylar chose Notre Dame and rose to national fame during her second year, being given the Most Outstanding Player award during the NCAA Dayton Regional in its 2011 event. Before the end of her sophomore year, she went past the thousand-point mark of her basketball career, becoming only the second woman basketball player of Notre Dame to achieve such a breakthrough.
During her years in college she was a candidate for the Wooden Award, Naismith Award, Lieberman Award, Senior Class Award and Dawn Staley Trophy. In 2013 she finished her career as the all-time Notre Dame leading scorer with 2,357 points, during their final match against the University of Connecticut, their Big East rival, and earning the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award for two years in a row.
Skylar graduated with her degree from Mendoza College of Business. In 2014 she appeared in the movie “Wild ‘n Out” as herself as a team captain. She received a call from Jay-Z inviting her to join Roc Nation Sports and indeed she became the first woman to join Roc Nation – actually, as soon as she graduated, Roc Nation gave her a Mercedes-Benz as a gift. She then became an advocate against childhood obesity, and a guest interviewer for ESPN and a Model for Nike, which adds to her WNBA contract of around $105,000.
