Siegfried And Roy Net Worth $120 million
When he was a child, Siegfried bought a magic book, and soon tried his hand at performing magic tricks. In 1956, he moved to Italy and started working at a hotel, which led to him serving on the ship TS Bremen as a performer. For Roy, he was very interested in animals at a young age, and had his own pet dog. A family acquaintance was the owner of Bremen Zoo, and that helped Roy familiarize himself with exotic animals. Eventually, he found work on the TS Bremen, serving as a waiter until he met Siegfried. The two’s most notable act during this time was bringing a live cheetah to the ship which earned them a significant amount of popularity, so launching their career.
The owner of the Astoria Theatre in Germany saw their act on the ship and then invited them to perform at her nightclub; this led to the duo getting invites to numerous nightclubs all over Europe. They started becoming well known for bringing in tigers to the act, and in 1967 they were invited by Tony Azzie to go to Las Vegas. They started performing in a show called “Beyond Belief” at the New Frontier Hotel and Casino, and the success of their act led them to an international tour which had them travelling from Japan to Radio City. In 1990, they returned to Las Vegas, performing in the Mirage hotel until 2003. Their act had become so popular that it became the basis of the short lived television series “Father of the Pride”.
In 2003, during one of their shows at the Mirage, Roy was bitten by a seven year-old tiger named Mantecore, which led to Roy being rushed to hospital as he suffered severe blood loss. While the public thought that his tiger had attacked, the duo defended the tiger informing the public that Roy had suffered a stroke and the tiger was trying to carry him to safety; however in biting Roy the tiger accidentally severed an artery. Roy was left partially paralyzed and the injury led to the closing of their show. They made their final appearance in February 2009, having a show with Mantecore while their performance was being broadcasted on the ABC show “20/20”. The duo retired a year later, and Mantecore would pass away in March 2014.
For their personal lives, it is known that they spent a significant amount of time in Puerto Rico, and are rumoured to have their own property in the country.
