Robert Alan Deal, born either May 4 , 1951 or May 4, 1955), is an American musician, lead guitarist, and co-founder of the rock band Mötley Crüe in Terre Haute, Indiana professionally known as Mick Mars. He ‘s known for his rough, bluesy riffs and melodic solos.
Soon afterward, his family moved to Huntington, Indiana. Before he was nine years old , his family moved back, this time to Garden Grove, California. He dropped out of high school and started playing guitar in a series of unsuccessful blues-based rock bands throughout the 1970s, sometimes using the name Zorky Charlemagne, and sometimes taking on menial day jobs. One band, Whitehorse, had a vocalist named Micki Marz who influenced the later change of name.
When Mick Mars recalled someone referring to an old band he was in as a “motley-looking group” the word Mötley Crüe came up. He reinvented himself after almost a decade of disappointment with the California music scene, changing his name from Robert Deal to Mick Mars and dyeing his hair jet black in hopes of a fresh start.
