Edmondson was active in NXIVM, a New York-based movement, Albany. Upon leaving in early 2017, she publicly criticized the group, alleging that she had been invited to “DOS,” an NXIVM substructure run by Keith Raniere and Allison Mack, and had been branded with Raniere’s and Mack’s initials at Mack’s Albany home.

Edmondson revealed NXIVM to the public in the New York Times. Edmondson lodged a lawsuit with the New York State Department against Danielle Roberts, an osteopathic surgeon, claiming that Roberts had done the branding.
