Robert Plant was born into a family with descent on his mother’s side going back to Romanchai ancestors. Robert became drawn to rock and roll, and singing in general, from a very young age. Plant has been quoted as saying that, when he was ten years old, the future rock legend would often hide behind the curtains at home and pretend to be Elvis Presley. Some years later, Robert Plant would quickly abandon his studiesto become an accountant to pursue a career in music, moving from band to band and discovering his own particular tastes and preferences. It was during these early years that Plant first met his future “Led Zeppelin” partner, the drummer John Bonham, and they played together for a time in the “Band of Joy”. Together, the two would join Jimmy Page in 1968 in forming the band that would come to define rock.

First called “The New Yardbirds” after guitarist Jimmy Page’s successful old band, the four legends would soon become known by the name of “Led Zeppelin”, and in 1969 they released their first, self-titled album, which was a huge success and propelled the band to worldwide recognition. Plant was already actively involved in the song-writing process for “Zeppelin” back then, but was not credited for his work on the first album – possibly because of Plant’s obligations to his old recording label, “CBS Records”. Whatever the case, Robert Plant took full interest in composing for the band’s second album, and he would quickly become famous for his particular style. Plant’s lyrics are reputed to have an almost mythological quality to them, and the rock legend has made it no secret he draws from sources ranging from Norse mythology to American blues music. After “Led Zeppelin” disbanded in 1980, Plant continued to perform solo, and his solo career has certainly made a considerable contribution to Plant’s net worth.
