Before she was two years old, she and her family moved to Australia, and she grew up in Perth. When she turned four, she enrolled ballet lessons, and for the next 12 years she dedicated her life to ballet. When she was 16 she suffered an ankle injury which devastated her dreams of ever becoming a ballet star; instead she turned to Latin dances.
In her first competition in 2002, Peta won the Western Australian Amateur Latin State Championship, and repeated the success the following year. Little by little, Peta became more and more successful, ending in the top five in such competitions as the Lion City Championships in Singapore, Australian Open Championships and Blackpool Dance Festival Youth Under 21 Latin competitions in 2005.
