Olivia Newton-John was born on 26 September 1948 in the city of Cambridge, England, the daughter of a Welsh-born father and German-born mother. Olivia Newton-John was raised largely in Melbourne, Australia.  Newton-John’s first dabbles in singing and performing came early – aged fourteen, Olivia was briefly part of “Sol Four”, an all-girl group she helped found. Though the group did not last long, and performed mainly in a cafe owned by Olivia’s brother-in-law, it was enough to get her noticed for the first time, and Newton-John would soon become a regular guest on local radio and television. After winning an Australian talent show, Olivia Newton-John would have the opportunity to transfer her career back to Great Britain, and though initially reluctant to remain there, Olivia soon changed her mind when she was joined by her duet partner, Pat Carroll. Performing locally for a time, Newton-John was soon noticed by the American music producer Don Kishner.

By 1974, Olivia Newton-John was well on her way to becoming a global celebrity. Newton-John’s first album, “If Not For You”, was released in 1971 and featured Olivia’s first hit single, “All Things Must Pass” – on which she had worked with the famous American musician and songwriter Bob Dylan. A number of Top Ten singles followed after her successful debut, culminating with her representing the United Kingdom in the 1974 “Eurovision Song Contest” – where Olivia ended up losing to the hit Swedish band “ABBA”, but became popular in the US in the same year, even besting the likes of Dolly Parton to become the Country Music Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year in 1974. In the years to follow, and despite a brief drop in popularity, Olivia Newton-John’s success would soar to new heights, being awarded several Grammies andOlivia ended up with ten #1 ranked singles in the US, which certainly contributed to her growing net worth. Olivia is well known for her charitable nature, often donating to various causes in particular cancer research having been successfully treated for breat cancer in the early 1990s, and releasing a charity album to support several foundations in 2012.
