Samaje grew up in his hometown, but once it was time for high school, he and his family moved to Pflugerville, Texas, where he went to Hendrickson High School. He joined the football team and track and field team as well. Used as a starter in a running back position, he completed 1,933 rushing yards and scored 16 touchdowns in his junior year, while as a senior he had 12 touchdowns from 1,492 yards.

After a successful high school career, Samaje received offers from the Universities of Oklahoma, Alabama, Tennessee, TCU, and Nebraska, and chose to play for the Oklahoma Sooners.
