Mona Scott grew up in Queens, New York, with five brothers and sisters, all raised by their single mother. She started making her own money at an early age, working for a development firm and then, for about two years, she got to work for TrackMasters. Here Mona met Chris Lighty, with whom she started Violator Management, and where she has now managed artists for almost 20 years.

In the ‘90s she co-founded Violator Management, a company which managed known hip-hop artists and was selling between 8 and 10 million records a year under her management. Mona became a name in the industry after succeeding in getting important endorsement contracts for her artists with big companies, such as Harbor Footwear, Pepsi Company or Iman Cosmetics. In 2008, she created her own company, Monami Entertainment, which was not only focused on managing artists, but also on other areas of the entertainment industry. In 2011, she started producing “Love & Hip Hop” and now several spin-offs are being aired, which bring important income to Mona Scott-Young. Together with Nicki Minaj, the producer launched a fruit-infused Moscato wine beverage, present on the market both in the USA and the UK.

In 2008, she decided to move into a different entertainment area, so left Violator and created Monami Entertainment. She is still the manager for Missy Elliot and several other artists, but her main source of income is now the television industry, where she has been producing the reality show “Love & Hip Hop” for six seasons. She is also an executive producer of several spin-offs: “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” and “Chrissy & Mr. Jones”, both started in 2012, “The Gossip Game”, first aired in 2012, “This Is Hot 97” and “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood”, which had their premieres in 2014, and “K.Michelle: My Life”, which also debuted in 2014. The media has speculated that each show makes about $500,000 a season, money that the producer splits with her partners. After the split, Mona adds to her total net worth at least $1 million each season, only from these shows. Besides the reality shows, in 2013 Monami Entertainment produced the film “The Promise Keeper”, the documentary “Cocaine: History between the Lines”, for the History Channel, and several other documentaries and television films. As will be seen, her sources of net worth are indeed wide-spread.
