Mitch and his family spent a time in Buffalo, New York, before they decided to move further to Oaklyn, New Jersey. He grew up there with his sister and brother.

Before he became a renowned writer, sports columnist and radio and TV personality, Mitch supported his education by working as a babysitter. However, soon enough he started working as a writer for the Queens Tribune. From that point he moved on to writing for the SPORT magazine, and soon enough started working as a freelance writer for popular magazines such as Sports Illustrated, GEO and The Philadelphia Inquirer. His life turned for the better when he was hired as the lead sports columnist for the Detroit Free Press. Since then he has become one of the best sports writers in the history of Detroit Free Press, and has received several awards, including the naming as the best sports columnist in the nation for 13 times, which is a record, and he also received more than 200 other writing honors from organizations including the American Society of Newspaper Editors, National Association of Black Journalists, and National Headliner Awards, among other organizations. Furthermore, he was the recipient of the APSE’s Red Smith Award for lifetime achievement. Her columns were also collected and made into books, but also, Mitch has released several non-anthology books, including “Tuesdays with Morrie” (1997), “The Five People You Meet In Heaven” (2003), “Have A Little Faith: A True Story” and “The Magic Strings Of Frankie Presto” (2015), among others, all of which increased his net worth by a large margin.

His career on radio began in 1987 on WLLZ-Detroit, as a sports commentator, but also had his own sports program on Saturdays, and in 1988 he added Sunday to his program.
