Matt Drudge was raised in Takoma Park, the only child of a former staff attorney (mother) and a former social worker (father), both Reform Jewish democrats who worked for the federal government. His parents split when Matt was six, and he continued living with his mother.
He graduated in 1984 from Northwood High School as one of the worst students in the class. A few years later, he moved to Los Angeles, and started working in the CBS Television gift shop. In 1994, he got his first computer, from his father, and soon started publishing an e-mail newsletter with gossip/opinion information about the entertainment industry that he picked up on his day-job. His career didn’t officially begin until 1995, when Matt launched online the “Drudge Report” – the one-man news bureau, from his home.
