Matthew Paul Miller was born on 30 June 1979, in West Chester, Pennsylvania USA, and is a musician, vocalist, and beatboxer, probably best known under his Jewish professional name of Matisyahu for his single “King Without a Crown”. He’s also known to mix rock, beat box, and Jewish themes. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today, from a career which began in 2000.

Matthew attended Hebrew school and spent most of his time learning Judaism. However, as he grew older he started to rebel and do drugs, which led to him dropping out of White Plains Senior High School. In 1995, he attended Alexander Muss High School in Israel for two months before returning to New York and then decided to travel around the country. After doing rehab, he went to Oregon and later finished high school there. While in Oregon, he started building his identity as a Jewish rapper, and then moved back to New York to develop his reggae skills. He also attended The New School and learned more about Judaism at New York University. As he grew older, he started identifying himself with more Jewish sects, and then recorded his first album.

Miller started out under the name MC Truth in Oregon and held the name for around a year. His first album “Shake Off the Dust…Arise” was released with JDub Records in 2004. In 2006, his second album “Live at Stubb’s” was released which was distributed by Sony. After releasing his next album entitled “Youth”, he toured several countries in Europe, and the US. He also made frequent visits to Israel to perform there. He became a supporting act for Sting and then released “No Place to Be” which featured several re-recordings. His song “King Without a Crown” became a big rock hit, and “Youth” also reached the top spot of the Digital Album charts.

Matisyahu has received praise from various rock and reggae groups; he was named the Top Reggae Artist in 2006 by Billboard, and Esquire also gave him the title “Most Lovable Oddball”. In 2007, Matisyahu made an appearance in the film “Unsettled” and would then tour with 311. A third studio album, “Light” was released in 2009, along with an EP entitled “Live at Twist & Shout”. In 2010, he returned to Texas to record “Live at Stubb’s, Vol. 2” and it was released the following year. He toured once again, and his next project would be “Akeda” which was released in 2014, which featured what he called a stripped sound, and it became part of the iTunes Top 10 for several weeks. In 2015, he returned to perform in Israel despite the increasing rate of stabbing attacks in the city. One of his latest projects is a tour of US college campuses in 2016.

Aside from his solo efforts, Matisyahu has collaborated with other big names, including beatboxer Kenny Muhammad, P.O.D., J Ralph, The Dirty Heads, and Avicii. His unique blend of reggae, rap, and Jewish music is easily identifiable in most of his projects.

For his personal life, it is known that Matisyahu married Talia in 2004 and they have two sons; they divorced in 2012, but according to him they still remain on good terms. He also has a daughter with a former girlfriend Toma Danley, whom he met during his time in Oregon.
