Truex attended Southern Regional High School and matriculated in 1998. Ever since he was young, he was inspired by his father who was a former race car driver. He started out racing go-karts before transitioning to Modified racing at the age of 18. He then began racing in 2000 at the NASCAR Camping World East Series, winning five races in the next four years. His wins would significantly boost his net worth, and then he set his eyes at joining the K&N Pro Series East (Busch North Series) in which his father used to race.

In 2001, Martin made his debut using his father’s Chevy at the Dover International Speedway. After running a few more races, his best was a seventeenth place finish at Dover. The following year, he started once again with his father’s team, but soon transitioned to a Chance 2 Motorsports Chevy after being hired by Dale Earnhardt. Jr. He split time between the two teams and ended the season with two consecutive second place finishes. In 2004, he would earn his first career victory which opened up three more wins for him over the next seven races. He won at the Talladega Superspeedway and the Nazareth Speedway, winning the Busch series, then in 2005 he defended his title.

In 2006, Truex moved to the Nextel Cup Series and would win the Autism Speaks 400 which then led to a third place finish at Pocono Raceway. He then merged with Chip Ganassi Racing which later became Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, staying with the team until 2009, winning the pole for the Daytona 500. He then became a part of Michael Waltrip Racing and started driving a Toyota Camry; he finished in sixth place in the Daytona 500, but had several setbacks due to accidents and problems with engines. He did well during 2011 which led to a good start in 2012, but he would fall short. This was the same for his 2013 season as he had mixed performances, including some top 10 finishes, but his winless streak was to extend to 218 races.

In 2014, he became part of Furniture Row Racing and would drive a Chevrolet SS before joining the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Season. The following year, he finally managed a second place spot and the momentum led to him finishing in the top ten in 14 races out of the first 15. In 2016, one of his best performances was a 0.010 second loss at the Daytona 500 and then he finally got a first place finish at the Coca-Cola 600.

For his personal life, it is known that Truex has been in a relationship with Sherry Pollex since 2005. In 2014, she was diagnosed with Stage III ovarian cancer. Aside from that, Martin is a big fan of the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers.
