Mana was formed in 1986 by three musical friends, singer Fher Olvera, Ulisses – a guitar player, and Juan Calleros, who was a bass player. The three initially performed together in a band called Sombrero Verde, but the project fell apart in the early 1980s. Soon enough, the trio put up an advertisement seeking a drummer, and were soon joined by Alex Gonzales. However, the group`s line up has changed frequently, and nowadays it consists of musicians Fher Olvera, Alex González, Juan Calleros and Sergio Vallin.

The band`s first – self-titled album came out in 1987, entitled “Maná”, through the Universal Music, however the album didn`t receive much attention, and went more or less unnoticed by the public. They switched then to Warner music, and released “Falta Amor” in 1990, which reached No. 13 on the US Latin Pop chart. Since then, the band has become one of the best and most popular pop-rock bands in Mexico, and is regarded as the Mexican U2. Through the 1990s, the group celebrated its name with albums, “¿Dónde Jugarán Los Niños?” (1992), which reached No. 2 on the US Latin Pop, but achieved double platinum status in Argentina and 12 times platinum in US, “Cuando los Ángeles Lloran” (1995), which also reached No. 2, and achieved gold status in US, increasing further Mana`s net worth, and in 1997 out came their first No. 1 album “Sueños Líquidos”, which also achieved platinum status in the USA.
