Julia commenced her career as a teaching assistant at the University of Louisiana Monroe in 2003. She has taught interpersonal communication and public speaking. From 2007 she directly supported the Provost with tasks unique to the Academic Affairs Office and acted as a liaison between the faculty and the administration.
Following that, she was Executive Director of External Relations & Strategic Communications at the same university. She was previously Director of Education, Director of Resident Patient Safety and Quality Assurance, and Clinical Teacher at Tulane University, New Orleans.

Julia Barnhill Letlow thanked well-wishers for praying and announced that her husband’s condition turned for the worse. He died tragically of COVID-19 on December 29, 2020, at Ochsner LSU Health. Julia posted this message on her social media account:
“While Luke continues his treatment and remains in stable condition, the doctors have told us the road to recovery and the length of time is hard to predict and different for everyone.
