Brown David Debrandon was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on 25 September 1985. He was brought up in a church that discouraged secular music but discovered an inherent singing talent and learned to sing melodies by transforming children’s books into his own songs. After his mother left cultivation, Brown went back into classic R&B and fell to the likes of Prince, Rick James, Lauryn Hill and Stevie Wonder. He then switched to the music business in Atlanta, Georgia.

He is expected to tour Ella Mai beginning in February 2019, and released the second installment of the EP series II on 6 Februar 2019.
Four nominations for the 62rd Grammy Awards were presented to Daye in November 2019, including a one for his solo debut, Best R&B Song. Daye opened on its Free Spirit tour of New Zealand for R&B singer Khalid on 21 November 2019.
