Lisa Edelstein is a daughter of Jewish parents Alvin, a former paediatrician at Chilton Memorial Hospital, and Bonnie Edelstein, a retired social worker. Lisa grew up in New Jersey the youngest of three children and went to the Wayne Valley High School, matriculating in 1984. While at the high school, Edelstein was a cheerleader for the New Jersey Generals but started a strike when the cheerleaders were forced to stand in bars while wearing their uniforms.
