Lemmy Fraser Kilmister was born on 24 December 1945, in the Burslem area of Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, England, and was a singer, musician and songwriter probably best known as a founder member of the music group Motörhead. His music might be considered as one of the authorities of the heavy metal genre. Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 in Los Angeles, California.

Lemmy’s parents divorced when he was three months old – Kilmister’s father was a Royal Air Force chaplain and concert pianist. After the divorce, Lemmy moved to Newcastle-under-Lyme, later to Madeley with his mother and grandmother. His mother married former footballer George Willis, when he was 10 years old, who had two kids from a previous marriage but Lemmy did not get along with them. He attended Sir Thomas Jones’ School in Wales, and after matriculation he worked at various jobs, but began playing guitar in local bands.

Kilmister’s musical career began in unknown bands, like the Rainmakers and the Motown Sect – he became a vocalist and bassist for the band Hawkwind in 1971. Four years later, Ian was arrested for drug possession and had to spend five days in jail but was released without charge. Though he was fired from Hawkwind, he founded his own group called “Bastard”, also consisting of guitarist Larry Wallis and drummer Lucas Fox. The band was renamed to Motörhead in 1975 and Ian continued playing in the band until his death in 2015.

Also, Kilmister appeared in various movies, such as “Hardware“, “Eat the Rich“ (it‘s soundtrack was recorded by Motörhead as well), “Tromeo and Juliet”,  and “Terror Firmer and Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV”. He usually played himself but his last role was as the President of the USA in “Return to Nuke ‘Em High”. Lemmy even appeared in one pornographic film “John Wayne Bobbitt Uncut”, and several TV series like “The Young Ones”. More, there‘s a documentary movie “Lemmy” which was directed by Greg Olliver and Wes Orshoski, which consists of several videos, in which other rock stars, like Dave Grohl, Slash, Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper talk about him.

In his personal life, Kilmister wasn’t married but he has two sons. He became a father at the age of 17 but they gave up the boy named Sean for adoption. During the 60’s Lemmy dated a girl named Tracy and they had a son Paul but Ian didn‘t have any involvement with the boy until he was six. Lemmy was known to have a drinking problem, since he allegedly drank a bottle of Jack Daniel’s bourbon per day for over 40 years, and he also confessed to using amphetamines and LSD. He suffered from hypertension and diabetes, but actually died from cancer, which was diagnosed only a few days before his death.
