LaMarcus had a tough childhood; his father was an alcoholic, and as a result, Aldridge`s mother, Georgia, kicked him out of the house. Growing up with his older brother, who like his father was a basketball lover, little by little LaMarcus was more and more into the game, and by the time he reached high school, he was madly in love with basketball.

He went to Seagoville High School, and while there he became one of the best players in his class, winning the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Class 4A Player of the Year award.

After high school, he enrolled at the University of Texas, and played for the men`s basketball team until 2006, when he decided to declare for the 2006 NBA Draft, he had intended to enter the NBA in 2004, but after a discussion with Hall of Famer Shaquille O` Neal, he changed his mind, and played two years in college. During his college career, LaMarcus played in 53 games, and had 12.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He won several awards, including the Defensive Player of the Year, and selections into Big 12 All-Defensive Team and First-team All-Big 12, among others.

In the 2006 NBA draft, LaMarcus was selected as the second overall pick by the Chicago Bulls, behind Andrea Bargnani. However, Aldridge was traded to the Portland Trailblazers for Tyrus Thomas and Viktor Khryapa, who were also participants of the draft.

In his first professional season, Aldridge played in 63 games; 22 of them were starts, and he averaged 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Since then, his game numbers improved with each season, and he has averaged over 20 points since 2010-2011 season, reaching 23.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game in 2014-2015 season.

Thanks to his great performances, LaMarcus received a new contract in 2009, worth $65 million over five years.
