As the daughter of a diplomat, Turner grew up in various places including Canada, Cuba, Washington D.C., Venezuela and England. After her father’s death, the family returned to the USA. Initially, she studied at Southwestern Missouri State University in Springfield, but eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Then, she moved to New York, and worked as a waitress, later stepped into off-Broadway productions. In 1978, she appeared in the soap opera “The Doctors Involved”. Her screen debut was the main role in Lawrence Kasdan’s film “Body Heat” (1981), which was her breakthrough as a film star, moreover, she was the best young actress nominated for a Golden Globe Award and BAFTA.
