Born in 1993 near Florida’s northern central border, in the two-stoplight town of Madison, Kamaiu Johnson is 27 years of age. Kamaiu celebrates his birthday on the 25th of June.
Growing up, Kamaiu didn’t know his father, and mother Angela worked at a juvenile facility, a Fastrac gas station, and Nestle Waters just to keep the lights on. He had to live with his grandmother Edna Haynes-Turner in a two-bedroom apartment with 5 other kids. The family had to survive on food stamps eating Cheerios for dinner. And sometimes, they have to go on an empty stomach for sleep.
Kamaiu used to sleep under the dining table and attended school for slow learners. As a kid, Johnson felt very depressed with his circumstances, so he dropped out of school when he was in 8th grade. After golf came into his life, the men at the golf course became his father who provided him with the training and guidance.
Till 2019, his bank account balance was zero. His mother has now moved to Oviedo, running a foster home. After his mom moved, Kamaiu lived with Ramon Alexander, a mentor of young black men, a member of the Florida House of Representatives.

Johnson attended the school for slow learners so he dropped out of school when he was in 8th grade. Later he received his GED. The golf course near his grandma’s house became his learning field and Jan Auger became his first teacher.
When Kamaiu was just swinging a stick nearby, Jan approached him, recognized his talent and gave him a 9-iron and a bucket of balls, and allowed him to practice gulf all day for a dollar a day.

When Johnson was just 18, he was qualified for the Florida Open. He then moved to New York with his friend and looped for decent money at Elmwood Country Club or played the Met Section circuit. Kamaiu won the Connecticut Four-Ball event. He then qualified for the 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links.
He then returned to his home Florida and started working in the cart shed at Grand Cypress Golf Club. Until this time, Kamaiu was still struggling financially. He then met Farmer’s CEO Jeff Dailey who then made him brand ambassador easing his financial struggle.
Kamaiu then won over Tim O’Neal and former TOUR pro-Brad Adamonis at the APGA Tour Championship in September. This opened his way to his first PGA Tour Event.

Ken Bentley is the name who has supported Johnson in enhancing his career in Golf. It was Ken who started APGA(Advocates Pro Golf Association) in 2010 to groom black players for golf.
Johnson after his win and top-10 finishes in the tour’s final five events earned himself the opportunity to appear in PGA Tour. But he was tested positive for COVID 19 along with his mother; who was hospitalized for difficulty in breathing.
As a result, Johnson had to withdraw and Willie Mack III will replace him in the field. He had expressed how much he has been disappointed for losing the opportunity.

Johnson has dated in the past but as for now, he is single and fully focused on Golf. He realized now is the time to fulfill his dreams and earn his own place.
