Joel Silver was born on the 14th July 1952, in South Orange, New Jersey USA, and is a film producer, best known to the world for putting his name under action films such as the “Matrix” franchise, “Predator” (1987), “Die Hard” (1988), and “Die Hard 2” (1990), among many other films. Joel is the son of a writer and a PR executive; he grew up in his hometown, and went to Columbia High School, located in Maplewood, New Jersey, and where he, Buzzy Hellring and Jonny Hines created the game Ultimate Frisbee, and as a result, he and the other creators were inducted into the USA Ultimate Hall Of Fame. After he finished high school, Joel enrolled at the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts of New York University. Before graduation he produced his first film, a short film entitled “Max” (1976).

After graduation he found a job at Lawrence Gordon Productions, and served as associate producer for the film “The Warriors” (1979), and co-producer for “Xanadu” (1980). In 1982 he was the executive producer for the film “Jekyll And Hyde…Together Again”. He was then made producer for films “48 Hrs.” (1982), and “Streets Of Fire” (1984). In 1985 he started his own film production company called Silver Pictures, through which he produced countless successful films and TV series. By the end of the 1980s, he was the producer of films “Commando” (1985) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rae Dawn Chong and Alyssa Milano. In the second half of the 1990s, Joel was the producer for films “Fathers` Day” (1997), “Conspiracy Theory” (1997), with Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts in lead roles, fourth installment of “Lethal Weapon” in 1998, and the first film of “The Matrix” trilogy in 1999.

With the new millennium, Joel continued successfully producing such popular films as “The Matrix Reloaded” (2003), and “Matrix Revolutions” (2003). In 2005 he produced “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”, and a year later he was the producer for the film “V For Vendetta” with Natalie Portman in lead role. Before 2010, he put his name on films “Speed Racer” (2008), and “Sherlock Holmes” (2009).

Since 2010, Joel has been responsible for the production of films such as “Unknown” (2011) with Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger as leads, “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” (2011), “Non-Stop” (2014), and “Veronica Mars” (2014).
