Schmitz reacted with laughter during the program, but became disturbed by the incident later. He had a history of mental illness and alcohol and drug abuse, and three days after the show Schmitz killed Amedure. and was later convicted of second – degree murder and received 25 to 50 years in prison. The episode never aired. The ratings of the program declined in the years after the event, and the program was cancelled in 2002.
