He attended Buena Park High School, and later North Hollywood High School, from which he matriculated as a class valedictorian in 1970.

Upon that, he became a member of the Dante Magic Club, where he met such magicians as Paul Green and Paul Harris. He also joined the Magic Castle, where he became a friend of iconic magician Dai Vernon. When he was 17 years old, Harry decided to move to San Francisco to pursue his career as a magician.
