Eric is the second son born to Mike and his wife Ileana, who escaped from Cuba with her family when she was only seven years old. Eric started playing baseball in his childhood years, and since then has remained focused on the game; he was taught by Bladimir Marrero, and by the time he was in his teens, Eric had already won several trophies in the little league system, and became one of the best prospects in the US. He went to the American Heritage School, where he continued to play baseball, and during his high school career, Eric won several awards and recognitions, including twice selected as Florida’s Baseball Player of the Year, the American Amateur Baseball Congress Connie Mack MVP award, and he also became a part of the Rawlings High School Golden Glove team.
