Before he was “The Activist,” Derrick Evans served as a teacher at Wayne County Schools from 2013 to 2017, where he was also a football coach at Tolsia High School. Derrick is the owner of Evans REI, a real estate business that was founded in May 2017.
Evans ran for the West Virginia House of Delegates to represent District 19. He won the general election on 3 November 2020. Evans represented the 19th district of his hometown of Prichard, West Virginia. He took office on 1 December 2020.
Evans was involved in controversy during his campaign as a result of his membership in a Facebook group chat in which both the Homophobic and the Islamophobic languages were used.
Derrick Evans Resignation
Evans took part in the storming of the U.S. Capitol Building on 6 January 2021. Evans’ social media posts show him heading to Washington, D.C., with fellow Donald Trump fans.
Derrick subsequently declined to engage in the destruction of property that took place during the riot, saying that he was merely there to film history as an independent member of the media.
On January 8, 2021, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Michael Sherwin, confirmed that Evans had been charged with entering the Capitol illegally. He was arrested later that day. Evans resigned on January 9 from the West Virginia legislature.

My children are the main reason I decided to run for this position. I want to create an opportunity for my children, as well as all children, to live and prosper right here in Wayne County for as long as they choose.
