Colin was very shy when he was younger, and while attending Kilarney Secondary School he often proclaimed himself a loner. He wanted to become a marine biologist, but then things changed after he became part of a play entitled “The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch”. He made the crowd laugh, and realized that he wanted to pursue a career in comedy. He matriculated from high school as a valedictorian, and then attended Studio 58 where he found out about improvisational comedy.
After graduating, he became a part of the Vancouver Theatre Sports League, and while working with the group he participated in various plays; eventually he would meet Ryan Stiles and the two would start performing together. After “Expo ‘86” Colin left TheatreSports League and moved to Toronto where he became part of The Second City, and worked there for three years, becoming a writer, actor and director for the company – he was included in many skits such as a five-minute version of James Bond. After leaving Second City, he took a break from comedy to spend time with his family. He then auditioned for the new British Improv show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” but was not successful.
