Chaka formed her own group, The Crystalettes, in her early teens, and then during her teenage years played with various groups around Chicago. She married at 17, after dropping out of high school, and adopted her husband’s name; then began her serious professional career, as a member of the band Rufus in 1972, which became popular with the hit “Tell Me Something Good” (1974), for which the band won a Grammy Award. More, their fifth studio album “Ask Rufus” (1977) certified platinum, and was nominated for a Grammy, too. Another Grammy-winning song performed with Rufus was “Ain’t Nobody” (1983).

Then Khan moved to London, England, and later to Germany. In 2001, she married her current husband Doug Rasheed. However, her private life is even more complicated, as on the one hand fame and fortune, on the other a struggle with alcoholism and drug abuse, as Khan admits to having had problems with these. Her drug problem ended in the early 1990’s, and alcoholism in 2005.
