Celebrities Involved in Gambling

If the popularity of films like Casino Royale, Molly’s Game, Rain Man, and even the Hangover franchise, has thought us one thing, it is that humans have a love of gambling. Whether one is a gambler themself, or just someone who is fascinated by the concept, gambling is, without a doubt one of the most popular phenomenon in the world.

Evidence points to the fact that gambling is much older than once believed. Historians believe that the Ancient Greeks used to gamble on various dice games, and dice found dating back to that era point to the fact that this is true.

Nowadays, however, most gamblers prefer to do their gambling online. While traditional, land-based casinos are still, undoubtedly, popular, online casinos are gaining in popularity more and more. Online poker tournaments are all the rage, but even more so, online slots are a huge industry in the iGaming market. For those looking to dip their toes into the world of online gambling, some great casino games online can be found at the website linked.

But, it isn’t just your average, everyday person who has a connection to gambling. As it turns out, many celebrities also enjoy a good round of poker, or a spin at the roulette table. Let’s take a look at a few celebrities who love to gamble.

Matt Damon

Perhaps best known for his starring role in Good Will Hunting and the Bourne series, Matt Damon developed a love of gambling in 1998, when he portrayed the main character, and gambling savant, Mike McDermott, in the film Rounders. The film is largely a story about poker, so it isn’t much of a surprise that Mr. Damon developed a love for the game, while portraying a master of it. Not so much recently, but in the early-2000s, and up until the 2010s, Matt Damon could be seen at some of Las Vegas’ (and the world’s in general) top casinos, sitting at the poker tables, and having a blast.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are long-time friends, so it might not surprise some of you to find out that they were both, once upon a time, involved in the world of gambling together. Much like Damon, Affleck is also a poker man, though both occasionally have been known to indulge in blackjack, and other card games as well.

Apart from being best friends, and prominent gamblers, another thing that ties Damon and Affleck to the world of gambling is their connection to Molly Bloom, and the biggest, high-stake, celebrity poker game in the world. And speaking of which…

Molly Bloom

We made an allusion to Molly’s Game earlier in the article, but in this section, we are going to shed light on the Molly Bloom affair. In her youth, Molly had ambitions of becoming an Olympic skier, however, an injury shattered those dreams. So, she instead dedicated herself to running one of the biggest, high-stake poker games in the world, with numerous celebrities involved, including aforementioned celebrities like Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, but also other big names, like Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and many others. After her arrest and sentencing, Mrs. Bloom wrote a memoir detailing her story, which was later adapted into film.
