Bill Watterson is the son of James G. Watterson, who worked as a patent attorney, and Kathryn. He spent his childhood in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, as the family moved there in 1965. When he was eight years old, he created his first cartoon, inspired mostly by comic strips such as “Peanuts”, “Krazy Kat”, and “Pogo”. After matriculation, he became a student at Kenyon College, from which he graduated with a BA degree in Political Science in 1980. During college, he continued to develop his skills, so he painted Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam on the ceiling of his room.

Beside that, Bill`s earliest work included political cartoons, which he drew for Campus newspapers at his college. However, after graduation he was offered a job at the Cincinnati Post, which he immediately accepted. However, the editors weren`t satisfied with his work, and within a year he was let go by the magazine.
Nevertheless, Bill didn`t surrender, and wile creating advertising postings for an agency, continued to pursue a career as a cartoonist. After a few years without a success and countless rejections, Bill made a breakthrough with a strip entitled “Calvin And Hobbes”, which was syndicated from 1985 until 1995, becoming a major hit and increasing Bill`s net worth by a large margin. During the existence of the strip, Bill`s net worth and popularity rose through the roof. However, Bill decided to cancel the strip, and it was last published on the 31st December 1995.
