When he was 12 years old he moved to the United States with his grandparents, settling in Miami, but returned to Israel in his teens to complete military service as part of the Israel Defense Forces, apparently becoming a proficient sniper. At the age of 15, he got his first tattoo, and decided to pursue tattooing as a career.
In 1992, he started an apprenticeship at Tattoos By Lou, moving to live in Denmark for a while to improve his craft. Eventually, he and his friend Chris Nunez started the tattoo parlor Love Hate Tattoos, which would grow in popularity, and were approached by TLC to make a reality television program that became “Miami Ink”. The show portrays him as a very tough and short-tempered individual as he has the responsibility of making sure that the tattoo artists are able to do the best work while still maintaining creative control.
